The story so far

I PACKED THIS MYSELF started as a project working with migrant workers and local communities in Cornwall. We found instances of exploitation, discrimination and outright racism and tried to find ways of bringing people together to increase understanding. We've run workshops across Cornwall in schools and with other groups. We're now taking this work forward by looking at unemployment in rural communities.

Migration and the 'white working class'

Breakfast seminar in Westminster.  A new book: "What does migration mean for the ‘white working class’ in the UK?” by Ben Rogaly, Sussex University and Becky Taylor, Birkbeck, University of London.

Good to see Ben Rogaly, who helped us develop ideas behind I PACKED THIS MYSELF and Let's Talk.

Some pretty hostile questioning afterwards: Mary Dejevsky of the Independent questioning the suggestion that the media deliberately fuelled 'anti migrant' stories.

Comments on the speakers' blog for the Migrant’s Rights Network – “The ‘white working class’ and ‘migrants’: moving beyond myth busting” - reflect some of the ideas voiced this morning.
